AN OUTLINE OF NEW GERMAN ARCHITECTURE

Lecture Summary: The lecture will present and discuss the conditions and issues of sustainable developments and so-called "Green Architecture" in the context of Germany over the past 30 years, where building industry is responsible for about 40% of total energy consumption. Sustainable development does not only involve construction of more energy-efficient buildings, but rather it calls for environmentally conscious and user friendly design.
Presenting a variety of Green Architecture exemplary buildings which combines aesthetic quality with high technical standards, Sybille Fanelsa discusses the works of Ingenhoven Architects who built one of the first ecological high-rises world-wide in the 1990s in Essen; and urban development projects like the "Inner Harbour Duisburg" and "Harbour City Hamburg".
The future has already started

Sybille Fanelsa lives in Berlin and works as a curator in the architecture sector. She was involved in film projects with R. W. Fassbinder and has overlooked exhibition projects, eg Germany's contribution to the Venice Architecture Biennale 2000. She also contributes editorial support to publications in the field of architecture and cultural history.
